Farmers Insurance Hawaii is celebrating "Back to School" by delivering 581 complete school supply kits and more than 5,000 additional school supply items, which will provide every student at Central Middle School with needed school supplies for the entire 2011-2012 school year. The kits and supplies, which were delivered to the school today, were donated by Farmers Insurance Hawaii employees.
"The economy has been tough on many families who often struggle to provide their keiki with basic school supplies to use throughout the year," said Michele Saito, president of Farmers Insurance Hawaii. "Everyone's goal here at Farmers Hawaii is to help provide Hawai'i students with the tools necessary to succeed in the classroom and beyond."
The contents of the school supply kits were determined based on items that were listed as "high demand" by Central Middle School. Each kit contains one box of No. 2 pencils, one ream of folder paper, one new 1.5" or 2" binder, one new pencil case or pouch, and one box of tissues.
Farmers Insurance Hawaii employees were able to "adopt" all 420 students at Central Middle School to provide each of them with their basic school supply kit. An additional 5,000 supply items and 161 kits were also donated to benefit the students throughout the school year.
"More than 85 percent of our students are on free and reduced lunch and at times, parents struggle to provide basic needs for their families. We are very thankful to Farmers Insurance Hawaii and their employees for going above and beyond to make sure that each student is provided with school supplies that will help them succeed with their education," said Garret Zakahi, vice principal, Central Middle School. "Without community partners like the Farmers family, we would be unable to provide our students with all of the materials necessary for the school year."
