About the programs:

Hawaii Theatre Young Actors Ensemble (open to high school age students) is a pre-professional training program for students who are serious about learning classical acting; this is not a drama club. The program is led by HTC education director and Po‘okela Award-winning actress Eden-Lee Murray. Students meet twice a week after school to learn acting, voice and movement technique, and to rehearse and perform a full Shakespeare production at the Hawaii Theatre in spring, 2012. The program includes master classes with top local theatre professionals.  For the audition, students should prepare a monologue between 1 and 2 minutes long from any published play. They also should bring contact information for a teacher or director with whom they have recently worked. Register for an audition by calling 791-1397 or email eden-leemurray@hawaiitheatre.com

Hawaii Theatre Junior Ensemble (open to middle-schoolers, ages 10 to 12) is an introductory acting program led by HTC education director and Po‘okela Award-winning actress Eden-Lee Murray. The program will consist of theatre games, creative dramatics, improvisation and basic acting techniques, with an emphasis on creative collaboration as well as performance skills. The second semester includes introductory work/theatre games with Shakespeare. No auditions are required, but prospective participants must call 791-1397 to make an interview appointment.

Hawaii Theatre Apprentice Program (open to teens, ages 13 to 18) is an opportunity for students interested in exploring careers in set design, lighting design, costume design, stage management or directing. In addition to participating in the master classes offered to the Hawaii Theatre Young Actors Ensemble, apprentices are individually mentored by local professionals in their particular area of stagecraft, and are allowed to work on the Student Matinee productions under the supervision of their mentors. Prospective participants must call 791-1397 to make an interview appointment and should be prepared talk about their area of interest.
